The Food Chain

i was reading an article earlier today about vegetarian food options for Thanksgiving dining...there is much tradition associated with the food customarily served on American dinner tables on this holiday, and being one who flirts with vegetarianism but hasn't gone into it whole hog (please pardon the pun), i'm always interested in new meatless options...the article was honestly a bit of let down, mostly soups and sides and not much in the realm of entrees and the big surprise came on the comment pages...a die hard carnivore (another ironic term) conservative took the opportunity to spew his hatred of vegetarians, liberals, hippies, women and all things that look scary from the smoky mouth of his cave...ignorant, knuckle-draggin' Neanderfuck...actually thinks that vegetarianism and environmentalism are threats to "his way of life"...

...we have come so far and yet still have so far to go...

Even though we/I could not live without meat completely, most of what we eat is vegetarian. I do make an aweful lot of dishes containing lentils and couscous... we rarely eat steak (which I LOVE with a passion) only cos its just to expensive to feed the 5 of use with a decent size steak....

We do eat quite a lot of chicken (sorry Janet)...

And I also use much quorn :) ...

we LOVE veggies in this house with a passion.... and rice dishes and pasta dishes.... I still couldnt go completely meat free though :)

ps....... my lads do complain when I make sweet potatoe and lentil curry though cos the next day they cant stop pumping LOL and boy dont it stink :)

my interest in vegetarian food comes more from my body's inability to process red meat than a moral compunction about eating critters and i have no problem with folks who do...hell's bells, i still like a few slices of crispy bacon now and again and the smell of grilling beef drives me bonkers, but i'm sick for days afterwards if i eat too much red meat...fishes agree with me more...and lots and lots of veggies...but the dude i was referring to was totally over the edge in his out and out hatred for vegetarians...it was quite puzzling...he even fanatsized about cannabalizing a vegetarian for his Thanksgiving meal...a demented fellow...

Oh I dont eat veggie stuff cos of meat being dead critters :).. I eat lots of veggies and veggie stuff cos I LOVE IT :)

Wow to the red meat thingie....

I cant do pork or ANY pork related products like ham or pies or anything with geletine in.... Im very allergic to it..... had a couple of close shaves in me time, even one in hospital 4 years ago when I snapped me acl playing football and they ripped out me hamstring and screwed and plated that in me to make a new acl... after about day 6 when I was with the land of the living (I was right proper poorly after the op, whats new aye lol) they ordered me a dinner cos I had not eaten for 6 days, but the fish they order from the kitchens had been cooked in animal fat mixture and I went into shock in front of their eyes LMFAO... good job the naval officer doctor was on the ball and realised almost straight away....

So, I do sympathise with ya about not being able to eat beef, oh how I crave for a bacon buttie.... sigh LOL.... my lads all eat bacon butties every weekend and it drives me insane with WANT lmfao...

I to LOVE fish with a passion....

Yep that bloke needs to be hung drawn and quartered LOL (wondering if you know what that means LOL)..

...drawn and quartered...isn't that when a strong horse is attached to each of one's limbs and the horsies are made to run in four different directions?...

I can choke down a fish if need be, but I'm really more amenable to chicken, pork or turkey. Steak is one of my favorite meals, but it's a "twice a year" treat for me. In the past few years I've cut back dramatically on the amount of red meat and pork in my diet, but I still eat a lot of chicky. I bet it's well over a year since I've had a hamburger.

I do a lot with brown rice and mushrooms, too. We do our best to avoid processed sugars, processed wheat, mayo, corn syrup, etc., but it's hard these days.

But as far as vegetarianism on moral ground? If God didn't mean for us to eat at least a few of his glorious creatures from time to time, why did he make them so tasty? (I'm reminded of a quote, uttered by a dragon: "I like humans, for they art crunchy and tasty indeed, especially with ketchup.")
